The development of tourism is one of the priority sectors of Uzbekistan. Extraordinary sights, unique culture, ancient history and natural beauty make the country very attractive for tourists. Having a huge tourist potential, the state is constantly improving this infrastructure.

On February 17-18-19 this year, training seminars "Training of representatives of the hotel business and tour operators in marketing sustainable tourism" were held in Khorezm (Khiva city) and Tashkent region (Shafran mountain resort), which were conducted by specialists from Latvia and Greece. The event was organized by the Association of Private Tourism Agencies of Uzbekistan (APTA) within the framework of the EU “Model for sustainable tourism in Central Asia: Building Capacities, Creating Awareness, Introducing technology” (“MOST”) project, funded by the European Union. Hoteliers and tour operators of Uzbekistan became participants of the seminars on a free basis.

The success of unlocking the country's tourism potential largely depends on tour operators. And today it is very important to correctly take into account the current trends of sustainable tourism, taking into account COVID 19. It was this topic and many others that were productively considered during the seminar. There were also a lot of practical marketing tips, tools for analyzing and assessing the real needs of tourists were identified. The seminar participants were able to analyze the current situation of their company and outline the current work taking into account all the peculiarities of our region.

One of the trainers of the seminar was Konstantinos Politis, Chairman of the Greek Cultural Center in Uzbekistan, ex-Executive Director of the Foundation for the Restoration of Byzantine Art (New York)

At the event, a proposal was made to make such trainings a permanent practice for Uzbek tour operators.
