The Association of private tourism agencies of Uzbekistan (APTA) is starting a new project "Model for Sustainable Tourism in Central Asia: Capacity Building, Raising Awareness, Implementation of Technologies" to increase the tourism potential of the countries of the Central Asian region. It is implemented as part of the "Switch Asia" initiative of the European Union.

The strategic goal of the project is to raise environmental awareness and introduce appropriate practices and technologies in the hotel industry in Central Asia.

The project is a methodical and technical support for accommodation providers by providing technical knowledge and ICT tools. Furthermore, knowledge about modern technologies is imparted. The accommodation providers should combine this theoretical knowledge with an action and investment plan.

In addition, the project "Model for Sustainable Tourism in Central Asia: Capacity Building, Awareness Raising, Technology Implementation" will provide 40 tourism organizations in Uzbekistan with appropriate equipment such as electricity / water meters and sensors.

The project, financed by the European Union, is being implemented in the regions of Samarkand, Bukhara, Khorezm and Tashkent.

300 Uzbek tourism companies will be selected as participants. The following is offered to them:

- Participation in a 4-day training (1 person from an organization) on selected topics of environmental management in tourism companies;
- Installation and use of software technologies for data management for the purpose of environmental certification;
the ability to procure and install hardware and software for surveillance;
- 40 companies will be selected from among the participants and will be supplied with special equipment free of charge.
- GSTC training on sustainable tourism and green procurement to improve competitiveness.

Awareness of the importance of introducing eco-programs in the hospitality industry not only enables tourism organizations to protect the environment and use available resources rationally, but is also an effective economic management tool that enables them to increase profitability growth and to increase profitability and competitiveness.

The eco-certification has a positive effect on the image of the hotel industry, is a strong “green” marketing tool and serves to encourage guest loyalty. Because of this, tour operators and tourists are more likely to choose such hotels to cooperate with, which adds additional profit.

The participant certification training focuses on the following standards:

- ISO 14001: 2015 - environmental management system;
- HCMI - Hotel Carbon Measurement Initiative. This is a methodology and toolkit designed for the hospitality industry;
- CSR - Corporate Social Responsibility.
