USAID representatives visited Samarkand region

A tour of the tourist village of Konigil and a visit to the family guest house “Darvozai Samarkand”, a warm welcome and a festive dastarkhan - this and much more took place as part of the official visit of USAID representatives to the Samarkand region.

On August 27 of this year, a delegation of 10 people led by USAID's Asia Bureau Deputy Administrator Assistant Anjali Kaur and USAID Uzbekistan Mission Director David Hoffman visited the tourist village of Konigil, the Meros paper mill, which produces paper using ancient technologies, and a family guest house "Darvozai Samarkand".

As you know, the tourist village of Konigil is a cozy corner for the soul; the place is famous for its unique handicraft traditions, pure nature, shady trees, and the Siab River flowing nearby. Konigil is located just 13 km from Samarkand and CBT tourism is developing here - community-based tourism.

Konigil has been providing social support for business development in the tourism sector for several years through USAID's Entrepreneurship and Business Environment (FGI) projects.

During the trip, USAID representatives took a tour of Konigil, visited the bakery of Sukhrob Nuriddinov, also, a master class on preparing Samarkand flatbread, met the owners of the family guest house “Darvozai Samarkand”, took part in a master class on preparing two types of Samarkand pilaf (traditional Samarkand pilaf and vegetarian Samarkand pilaf without meat), took a tour of the family guest house, tried festive pilaf and saw the national wedding custom “Kelin Salom”.

It should be noted that Sukhrob Nuriddinov and representatives of the family guest house “Darvozai Samarkand” were participants in our training seminars within the framework of the USAID project for the development of entrepreneurship and the business environment (FGI).

The event ended with a memorable photo session, good wishes and parting words for prosperity and development. Of course, the meeting became a memorable and exciting event for all participants. Everyone expressed hope for further cooperation and continuation of fruitful work in the field of CBT tourism.
