Aziz Abdukhakimov headed the Chess Federation

Deputy Prime Minister of Uzbekistan Aziz Abdukhakimov was elected as Chairman of the country's Chess Federation. An extraordinary reporting and election conference of the federation was held on January 30, the press service of the Ministry of Physical Culture and Sports reported.

Aziz Abdukhakimov, who is also the chairman of the State Committee for Tourism Development, was approved by the presidential decree of January 14 as the head of the Republican Council for the Accelerated Development of Chess in Uzbekistan.

The decree adopted the State Program for the Development of Chess until 2025 and set the goal of increasing the number of Uzbeks who are constantly playing chess to 3% (now 0.8%) by this year, as well as achieving the country's inclusion in the top ten of the rating of the International Chess Federation (FIDE) in 2025 year (now - 30th place out of 162 countries).

“Chess, which is considered a 'gymnastics of the mind', helps to raise the level of logical thinking of the younger generation. Chess is a difficult sport that requires a high level of intelligence, patience and will. A person involved in this sport learns to find the correct and rational solution in difficult situations, ”said Aziz Abdukhakimov.

Since the summer of 2018, Dmitry Li, deputy director of the National Agency for Project Management under the President, has been the chairman of the Chess Federation.

At the end of last year, a number of Uzbek grandmasters reported problems in relations with the federation. Aziz Abdukhakimov said in early January that the activities of the federation would be analyzed and the necessary measures would be taken.
