Tourist tax will be extended to citizens of Uzbekistan
From March 1, the tourist (hotel) tax will also apply to citizens of Uzbekistan. Now only foreigners pay it.
From March 1, 2021, for citizens of Uzbekistan and stateless persons permanently residing in the Republic of Uzbekistan, a tourist (hotel) fee is introduced for each day of their stay in hotels, hotels and other accommodation facilities.
This is provided by the presidential decree "On measures for the further development of domestic and pilgrim tourism in the Republic of Uzbekistan" dated February 9.
Tourist tax is collected by hotels, hostels for each day of stay. Now only foreigners pay it.
The amount of the fee will be set by the Cabinet of Ministers. The funds received from the payment of the fee will be used to finance activities to promote and stimulate domestic tourism, ensure the workload of accommodation facilities (hotels, tourist camps and complexes, houses and recreation areas, boarding houses, campings, motels, family guest houses, yurt and tent camps , sanatoriums and other facilities) during the low tourist season.
According to Spot, plans to introduce a tax for citizens of Uzbekistan became known at the end of last year. Then it was planned to establish a fee of 0.5% of the base calculated value (with the current BRV in the amount of 245 thousand soums, this is 1225 soums).
The founder of Igmar Apart Hotel Marina Ten in an interview with Spot called this collection "a bone in the throat." It was introduced in 2017, but due to the pandemic, payment was suspended as a preferential measure for hotels.
The amount of the tax for foreign tourists depends on several factors, for example, the number of rooms in the hotel and its stardom - it comes out somewhere between 5-25% of the BRV. “Why does a starless hotel with 10 rooms pay one rate, and a hotel of the same level with 20 rooms pay another? Nowhere in the world is there such a practice that the tourist tax depends on the number of rooms, ”Marina Ten wondered.
