UN: Ancient city of Khiva will host UNESCO International Cultural Forum

The international forum "Central Asia at the crossroads of civilizations" will be held in Khiva with the support of UNESCO, the "Dunyo" news agency reports with reference to the "UN News" portal.

UNESCO believes that the forum will provide another "opportunity for the study and popularization of the common culture and common heritage of this region."

“The city of Khiva in Uzbekistan, where the forum will take place, is one of the oldest cities on the Silk Road. It was the center of education, science and culture and served as the cradle of civilizations for millennia, and the inner city of the ancient oasis of Khiva, Ichan-Kala, was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1990, UN News writes. "Ichan-Kala served as the last stop for the caravans before crossing the desert on their way to Iran."

The city is recognized as an integral and well-preserved complex of Central Asian Islamic architecture, which includes the Juma mosque, mausoleums, madrasahs, as well as palaces built by Allakulikhan at the beginning of the 19th century.
