Awarding of star rating certificates to family guesthouses
A significant event took place in Fergana, Andijan, Tashkent, Bukhara, Kashkadarya and Khorezm regions - owners of family guesthouses were awarded certificates of star rating (from one to three stars). This was the result of a large-scale classification organized under the USAID Future Growth Initiative.
The classification project was implemented by the Association of Private Tourism Agencies of Uzbekistan (APTA) with the support of the Tourism Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan and Regional Departments for Tourism Development in these areas. The main goal of the initiative is to improve the quality of services provided, strengthen the competitiveness of family guesthouses and contribute to the development of tourism infrastructure in the regions.
A total of 62 family guesthouses were classified. The results of work in different regions showed:
- Tashkent region:
Out of 19 participants, three houses received star categories: two were awarded one star, one was awarded two stars.
- Andijan region:
Among 16 participants, only one received a star, emphasizing the need for further work on the quality of services.
- Fergana region:
Of the 13 participating houses, three received star categories. Two houses received three stars each and one house was awarded two stars.
- Kashkadarya region:
Seven family guesthouses participated in the classification. Of these, two received categories indicating a high level of services provided and adherence to hospitality standards.
- Bukhara region:
As part of the re-classification, four houses submitted a request for revision of categories. As a result, three houses received three stars each and one received two stars.
- Khorezm region:
There was also a re-classification. All three participants received the highest rating - three stars.
Obtaining star certificates means not only recognizing the high level of services provided, but also opens new perspectives. Stars increase tourist confidence, attract new guests and set standards for other market participants.
This project demonstrates that classification contributes to the professional development of family guesthouse owners and strengthens Uzbekistan's position as an attractive tourist destination. The introduction of such systems is a confident step towards the creation of a quality tourism product capable of competing at the international level.
