USAID открыло миссию в Узбекистане

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) announced the opening of a mission in Uzbekistan. Prior to this, the agency's office was part of the USAID mission in Central Asia.

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) on September 30 announced the establishment of a bilateral mission in Uzbekistan. During the online event, the announcement was made by and. O. USAID Administrator John Barsa.

Prior to this, the agency's office in Uzbekistan was part of the USAID mission in Central Asia (in Almaty). Simultaneously, a new USAID mission was opened in Tajikistan.

“Missions are the focal points of USAID's work and demonstrate that the United States is committed to building direct and meaningful relationships with the government and people of the country,” said John Barsa.

The new missions in Uzbekistan and Tajikistan will help ensure that USAID is coordinated in the region, “so that no Central Asian country is left behind,” he added.

John Barsa recalled that in February, the administration of US President Donald Trump approved the new United States Strategy for Central Asia for 2019-2025. The opening of new missions is part of the implementation of this strategy.

Ambassador of Uzbekistan to the United States Javlon Vakhabov, speaking at an online event, noted that Tashkent highly appreciates USAID's support for large-scale reforms in Uzbekistan and its contribution to the development of the country.

He noted that the goals of the US strategy for Central Asia coincide with the priorities and vision of Uzbekistan.

The ambassador also thanked the United States for the assistance and technical assistance provided to Uzbekistan in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic, as well as support for the residents of the Syrdarya region, affected by the breakthrough of the dam of the Sardobin reservoir in the spring.

The new missions are expected to be fully operational in 2021.
